Traveling to Putney
The Putney School is the home of our Summer Art Programs. We are located in Putney, VT and our campus is about 100 miles from Boston and about 200 miles from New York City. For those of you who are not within driving distance below you will find the details about Bradley International Airport, local Amtrak options and recommended Independent Transportation Companies. Please review all travel policies on Unaccompanied Minors as travel plans are made.
Putney Summer Programs offers shuttles to transport students for arrival/departure at the transportation options listed below (within the arrival/departure windows – which will be shared with accepted families).
Bradley International Airport (BDL) – Hartford, CT
Students arriving by plane should arrange flights through Bradley International Airport (BDL) in Hartford, CT. Summer Programs shuttles will be available to transport students arriving at BDL (within our established arrival/departure windows).
Our staff only provides airport transfers on the opening Sunday and final Friday of each session. Upon arrival, a Putney Summer representative will meet the student at the baggage claim area at BDL, wearing a Putney Summer t-shirt. The student will travel with this person and with other Putney Summer participants from the airport to our campus. On the day of departure, a Putney representative will deliver the student traveler to BDL. Your student will check in at their airline location. We cannot escort students beyond security unless you are an unaccompanied minor as designated by the airline.
- There is a fee of $40 per airport transfer fee per way.
- There is an additional fee of $60 for per way of unaccompanied minor service.
- The unaccompanied minor service must be purchased through your airline.
Amtrak: Brattleboro, VT or Springfield, MA (unaccompanied minor only)
Our staff only provides Amtrak transfers on the opening Sunday and final Friday of each session. Upon arrival, a Putney representative will meet the student at the station, wearing a Putney Summer t-shirt. The student will travel with this person and with other Putney Summer participants from the station to our campus. On the day of departure, a Putney representative will deliver the student traveler to their designated Amtrak location. Your student will check in at their location.
- There is a fee of $25 per way to the Brattleboro, VT Amtrak.
- An unaccompanied minor can only arrive at Springfield, MA Amtrak. There is a fee of $40 per way.
- There is an additional fee of $60 per way of unaccompanied minor service.
- The unaccompanied minor service must be purchased through Amtrak.
Independent Transportation Companies
Families must make their own arrangements for transportation to/from Putney, VT if your student is arriving/departing at other times (outside of our designated time windows) or other locations not listed above.
