Students are prompted and guided through the process of poetic expression to create work that is specific in language and precise in theme. Writing is refined through class feedback and one-on-one work with faculty, with time set aside for revision of written work. Students read from a wide array of poets. Writing is shared in class, at our weekly community readings, and is published in a class anthology.

Faculty: Nick Muccio

poetry teacher - nick muccio

Nick was assigned a poetry project in fourth grade and has since been enamored by the craft. Embracing the many different forms a poem can take, he has enjoyed pursuing the creation and analysis of poetry by exploring written verse, hip-hop, drama, and spoken word. At Bates College Nick practiced his craft with his peers in the Authors Guild, leading writing workshops, organizing open-mic performances, and bringing local artists to campus. He has since taken to teaching English at the high school level, living to foster a love for the art that has brought him joy in abundance. He is eager to join the Putney community this summer.
