Directions

The Putney School is located in the hills above the town of Putney in southern Vermont. It is 15 minutes from the small city of Brattleboro, VT, about 2.5 hours from Boston and 4 hours from New York City. There is an Amtrak train and Greyhound bus service from Brattleboro. The primary airport is Bradley International Airport, about 1.5 hours south.

When traveling by car, take exit 4 off Interstate 91; go north on Route 5. Turn left in the village of Putney at the General Store across from the paper mill. Approximately one mile from the village, turn left at West Hill Road. About one mile up West Hill, turn left onto the paved road that leads to the main entrance of The Putney School.

Arrival & Departure

Summer Arts

Students who are participating in a workshop should arrive on campus for registration between 1:00 and 5:00 pm on the first Sunday of the session (Session I: June 24th, Session II: July 15th) and depart by 1:00 pm on the final Friday of the session (Session I: July 13th, Session II: August 3rd).

Engineering

Students in this workshop should arrive on campus for registration between 1:00 and 5:00 pm on Sunday, July 15th and depart by 1:00 pm on Friday, July 20th.

Art/Activism/Impact

Students in this workshop should arrive on campus for registration between 1:00 and 5:00 pm on Sunday, July 15th and depart by 1:00 pm on Friday, August 3rd.

 

Transportation

Students arriving by plane should arrange flights through Bradley International Airport (BDL) in Hartford, Connecticut. Students who arrive at Bradley between 10:00 am and 3:30 pm on arrival day and who depart Bradley between 3:30 pm and 7:00 pm are eligible to sign up for Summer Programs shuttle service. The charge for airport shuttle service, is $65 each way, and is billed to the student's account. If travel is arranged through other airports or at other times, transportation between the airport and Putney is the responsibility of the family. We are happy to provide contact information for transportation companies that regularly service Putney.

Pick-up and drop-off of students on the opening and closing days of each session from the Amtrak train station or the Vermont Transit (Greyhound) bus station in Brattleboro, Vermont are provided free of charge and in Springfield, MA for $40 each way.

Adult Week Travel

Please arrive on Sunday, August 5th for 4:00 registration, followed by dinner at 6:15 and a welcome gathering at 7:15.
