What to Bring

Our dorm rooms are simple and provide basic accommodations; they are not air conditioned. We encourage you to bring your own fan. August weather in Vermont is unpredictable; we suggest packing comfortable clothing appropriate for a wide range of temperatures.

Linens
All participants must bring their own bed linens and towels. A blanket and a pillow are provided. Beds are twin sized. No bedding aside from the pillow and blanket is provided.

Laundry
Each dorm is equipped with washers and dryers. There is no charge for use of laundry facilities. Laundry detergent is provided.

Pets
Please leave your pets at home.

How to Get Here

Air Travel: The closest airport is Bradley International Airport (BDL) in Hartford/Windsor Locks, Connecticut. Independent transportation services that offer airport pick-up and drop-off to The Putney School include:

Train Travel: The closest Amtrak train station is in Brattleboro, Vermont, 20 minutes from The Putney School campus. Transportation to the campus is available via Brattleboro Taxi (see details below).

Bus Travel: The closest bus station Vermont Transit (Greyhound) is in Brattleboro, Vermont, 15 minutes from the Putney School campus. Transportation to the campus is available via Brattleboro Taxi (see details below).

Taxi Service: Very limited taxi service is available from Brattleboro to Putney via Brattleboro Taxi (802) 254-6446. Advance reservations are highly recommended.

*Wholesome and plentiful meals are served in the central dining hall (the K.D.U). The school grows many of its vegetables and produces milk and dairy products. Vegetarian and vegan selections are available at meals.

**The Vermont Jazz Center will be in residence on the Putney campus concurrent with the Arts Week. Participants of both programs will take their meals together in the KDU. Vermont Jazz opens their Thursday and Friday performances to the public.
